The Milonga Factory

Our next edition of the Milonga Factory on 26 November is a special one, with workshops and a performance by Natalia Agüero and Agustín Venturino. This young couple from Buenos Aires dances and teaches with a great passion for tango. They studied with many different tango maestros, in different styles, and developed their own method of teaching. Instead of focusing on figures and sequences, their method starts with increasing the awareness of everyday movements and then learn how each sequence in tango is composed of simple elements. This approach enables a more comfortable, easy and fluid way of dancing and allows the dancers to find their own authentic expression in tango.

Natalia & Agustín will give three workshops:
15.30 - 16.45 Workshop 1: Movement dynamics (flat shoes recommended)
16.45 - 18.00 Workshop 2: Music interpretation
19.30 - 20.45 Workshop 3: Non-movement

Levels: the first two workshops are for all levels, the 3rd workshop for advanced dancers.
Prices per person: one workshop 18 Euro, two workshops 33 Euro, three workshops 45 Euro.
Workshop registration: registration form

Workshop schedule

Workshop 1: Movement dynamics 15.30 - 16.45

Do "cambios de frentes", "giros", "rebotes", slowdowns, off balance, suspensions, have something in common? Through easy exercises with clear and comprehensive explanations, we will explore one of the three most used ways of tango dance communication, which enable us to dance with fluidity and dynamic.

Previous knowledge required: none. Flat shoes recommended.

Workshop 2: Music interpretation 16.45 - 18.00

The music evolved through the years, and so the dance did. We will travel through the most important moments in history to understand the intention of the music and we will explore the dance technique used in that time of history. When dance intention and music intention match, our capability of expression gets maximized.

Previous knowledge required: embrace, salon counter clock circulation, basic tango dance communication.

Workshop 3: Non-movement 19.30 - 20.45

Every song is composed of sounds and silences, and our dance is composed of movements and pauses. What would happen if we combine both in the same movement? We will explore how to separate the leader's movement from the follower´s movement and how to fit it into the music. There will be personalized exercises for each couple to practice.

Previous knowledge required: forward, backward and side steps, pivots, fluidity dance movements, axes self-control, balanced movements, how to move with my own energy but not alone, stable connection with my partner, motion understanding.

Where to find The Milonga Factory

The location of the Milonga Factory is "Het Danslokaal" in the Honig Complex, the new cultural hotspot in Nijmegen. It has a beautiful, floating wooden floor of 137,50 m2. The address is Waalbandijk 12F.

If you visit the Milonga Factory for the first time, make sure to print the map of the Honig Complex, indicating the walking route from the parking lot to the entrance, or the map with the walking route from Nijmegen Central Station. Or have a close look at the explanation below. Without these it might be difficult to find the entrance. But it's easy if you follow the map and directions.

Entrance in front of the complex

Many dancers already now the Honig Complex/Factory from the Brebl milonga, which is at another spot in the same complex. The entrance to the Milonga Factory is at the front of the complex (the road side), where you will see a big sign "BEACH FABRIEK NIJMEGEN" and red, exterior stairs. (Addition: not visible yet on the photo below, but now there is also a big sign of "HET DANSLOKAAL" next to the sign of the Beach Fabriek.)

Take the stairs to the first floor and enter through one of the doors at the top of the stairs. When you've entered the building, continue straight, walking past the 'Beach Fabriek' on your left. When you hit the wall, turn left. Then immediately right, and you'll arrive at the entrance of the Milonga Factory.
